A FANTASTIC week of events will be one to remember for the thousands of visitors and residents who enjoyed Rhyl Week, say organisers.
Scorching temperatures and brilliant sunshine attracted thousands to the seaside town during Rhyl Week Celebrations (May 23-31) where they enjoyed a whole array of events from a steam train extravaganza and a country music festival to abseiling down the sky tower and a record breaking attendance at the Cancer Research UK Race for Life on Sunday.
TV and radio personality Toby Anstis visited Rhyl exactly a month before he hits the region’s airwaves in his new mid-morning slot.
Toby turned up on Rhyl high street where hundreds of onlookers watched as he officially opened Rhyl Week 2009 with mayor Glyn Pickering.
They cut the big red ribbon in front of a big crowd including pupils from Christchurch School.
This kicked off over a week’s worth of activities for all the family across Rhyl organised by Denbighshire County Council.
Toby Anstis said: “It was a real honour to be asked to officially open Rhyl Week and really nice to meet everyone and see the area. I can’t wait to start broadcasting to the North Wales Coast!”
Rhyl Week Celebration proved a huge success and it is hoped many visitors will be tempted to return and attend future events which have also been organised by Denbighshire's Regeneration and Maritime Services.
These include Rhyl Airshow on August 8 and Fun in the Sun 2009 over the august Bank Holiday weekend.
Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, Cllr Dave Thomas, said: “Rhyl Week is now in its seventh year and the 2009 event has proved a real success yet again.
I would like to thank all the organisers and volunteers who helped to make the week of events run so smoothly.”
