DENBIGHSHIRE animal rights campaigners have collected 3,500 signatures in a bid to stop the badger cull from going ahead.
The group hope their petition will persuade Elin Jones, minister for rural affairs, to rethink the mass-killing of badgers.
Judi Hewitt, who has been leading the campaign, said: “I would like to thank Betty Lee from Clwyd Badger Group for contributing to this petition; and a very big thankyou to the public for taking the trouble to sign our petition.
“Lesley Griffiths AM has already agreed to a meeting with us so hopefully she will take this public petition and present it to Ms Jones in Cardiff, on our behalf.
“We know that the Welsh Assembly are being very secretive about when and where the killing of badgers will take place, but rumour has it could be as early as this spring.
“Our petition has shown that most people on the streets are angered by the prospect of a cull of badgers.”
