A MOTHER whose 22-year-old son died in a car crash is appealing to other youngsters to heed her warning that speed can kill.
Edwina Wares says she does not want another family to go through the heartache her family has experienced.
Mrs Wares lost her son on August 26 when his Peugeot 206 hit a wall close to their Prestatyn home. Two other cars were involved in the crash on the A547.
"It may be too late for David and the youngsters he knew but the youngsters of the community who can’t drive yet must be made aware of the dangers," she said.
"If I can stop one other family losing a child and if I can be of help to anyone else I will do whatever it takes to raise awareness that speed does kill," said Mrs Wares.
David who was on his way home from Graig Park Hotel where he worked during the holidays when tragedy struck.
He was very close to the turning into Melyd Avenue where he lived with his mum, older sister Jenny and younger brother Cameron when he was involved in the collision.
"That is what makes the accident even harder to comprehend," Mrs Wares said. "He was a lovely boy who lived life to the full – his passion was the gym and cars. He drove his family and friends to distraction with his endless plans for a new car project or another car to buy."
David was about to enter his final year at Liverpool John Moores University where he was studying property management.
A former pupil of Fairholme in St Asaph, Kings School in Chester and later Prestatyn High School, David was well known in the area and was described as a happy sociable youngster, remembered fondly by his teachers as a pupil who could always win anyone with his smile.
His mother wanted to take the opportunity to thank all the family and friends who sent cards and flowers and visited their home.
"They have been a wonderful support over the past few difficult weeks," she said.
Following the accident, scores of floral tributes lined the street corner near where David’s car hit and the Welsh flag was lowered to half mast at the Graig Park country club where he worked with his mother.
A celebration of David’s life will be held at Calvary Church on Victoria Road, Prestatyn, at 1pm on Friday, October 3.
No flowers, but donations in lieu can be made to the Special Care Baby Unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan.
