Youngsters open Denbighshire youth bank

FOUR of Denbighshire’s most daring youngsters came up last week with an innovative way to tackle the credit crunch – by opening their own bank.

Charlotte Frobisher, Beccy Williams, Morgan Griffith-David and Rebecca Jones, who are all volunteer workers based across the county, set up Denbigh-based Denbighshire YouthBank as a way to fund youth projects across the Vale, using money invested by the Welsh Assembly.

"This is a very exciting project to be involved in. The YouthBank will be looking at youth projects, from around the county, through the eyes and minds of young people" said Morgan, a 17-year-old who attends Ysgol Glan Clwyd.

"We will be providing small grants up to £500 to valid applicants in Denbighshire which will benefit both young people and their communities."

The foursome, who founded the project, are effectively managers of their own small-scale bank, and will join six other young people who will all receive support and training from the county council.

Denbighshire Youthbank’s money comes from the Welsh Assembly and the bankers are hunting for young hopefuls between the ages of 16 and 25 in a bid to back more of the county’s youth projects.
