MAGISTRATES have made a parenting order against a Towyn man who failed to send his 11-year-old son to school.
The 65-year-old, who cannot be named, had pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the boy’s regular attendance, and Peter Brown, prosecuting at Prestatyn magistrates’ court, said the boy’s attendance record was only 18%.
The court was told that the father had ignored all efforts to sort out the problem and was sometimes still in bed when officers called at their caravan.
“There has been a total failure to engage with the education authority,” he said.
The man, who had two previous convictions for similar offences in respect of another child, was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and given a 12-month parenting order which will mean his attending various classes with an educational social worker.
He must also produce medical evidence if the boy, who is due to start in secondary school in September, says he is too ill to attend school.
