Llangollen Town FC to celebrate centenary at air fest

LLANGOLLEN Town FC's plans to celebrate their cenetary later this month are all up in the air, say organisers.

The club, which is marking 100 years in the sport, has announced a tie-up with the organisers of the town’s forthcoming Balloon Festival to ensure their birthday bash is a sky-based spectacular.

"I played football for Llangollen and when I found it was their centenary I thought a balloon party would be ideal," said organiser David Green, the event organiser who was also behind the town’s first-ever Motorbike Show.

"It is also an ideal way to open this year’s bigger and better than ever Balloon Festival."

The party, which is being held on August 29, will include a funfair, live music, and a host of hot air balloons, many of which are being brought to the town for the Balloon Festival, which begins the following morning.

"We’re really up for it, this is going to be our birthday party and we’re going to enjoy it and hope as many people as possible join us for what should be a great night," said Gareth Lloyd, Llangollen FC’s team manager.

The event, which organisers say will be a curtain-raiser for the Balloon Festival itself, runs from 6pm until 11pm at the Royal International Pavilion. Tickets cost £6 for adults, £5 concessions and £3.50 for 16 and unders, who must be accompanied by an adult. To find out more www.hotairballoonfestival.co.uk
