Long wait to fix Pendyffryn surgery after car hit it

REPAIR work on a busy medical centre which was damaged when a car smashed into the building will take until next year to complete.

Pendyffryn Medical Group Surgery, Prestatyn, was evacuated on Thursday morning after a patient’s vehicle collided with one of the walls. It is thought the patient was attending an appointment and accidentally drove forward while attempting to park a car.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene immediately, and while the driver was unhurt, the surgery suffered structural damage and is facing a hefty repair bill. Severe cracks are visible from inside and outside the building.

Practice manager Beth Roberts said: “We’ve got props holding up the ceiling inside the building. We’ve got one large room and one consulting room out of action.

“We’ve had a structural engineer in and there’ll have to be a rebuild of part of the existing building.

“There are some rooms we won’t be able to use until January. It’s not going to be easy over the next few months.”

The GP surgery, believed to be the largest in North Wales, is now in partial use after a raft of temporary repairs were made. However, the building is no longer accessible to disabled people.

“We’re trying to solve the problem, but in the meantime we are encouraging disabled patients to use our Meliden surgery,” said Beth.

“We thank our patients for being so patient and ask for their continued support.”
