Rhyl unemployed given Government funding boost

RHYL’s jobless will share in a £5 million cash pot which aims to get them back into work.

Secretary of State James Purnell has announced that the Rhyl City Strategy scheme will be extended for a further two years.

"I am delighted to extend the funding, I want to see more initiatives like this one," said Mr Purnell.

"I want to give more power to customers, providers and regions. We are reforming the Welfare State from an essentially passive one to a profoundly active one. We want a work culture, not a welfare culture."

Barry Mellor, chairman of the Strategy’s Executive Board and General Manager of Arriva, added: "The announcement that the City Strategy is to be extended for a further two years is fantastic news for Rhyl. "We are already seeing positive outcomes, with a reduction in the numbers of people out of work, and with closer partnership working between public, private and voluntary organisations."
