Vale of Clwyd participants in Rhyl Race for Life

Race for Life

CHEERY competitors from the Vale of Clwyd were among the Rhyl runners racing to raise funds at a special charity marathon last weekend.

The Race for Life 2008, held at the town’s Events Arena, saw over 3000 entrants run a 5km course to raise funds for Cancer Research UK, and included a strong show of contenders from the Vale.

"It was absolutely fantastic, with over 3000 women taking part in two events. It did rain a little towards the end, but we were glad the weather held out." said Annette Quarry, Race Organiser.

Fundraisers put their best foot forward in two separate events staged on the Rhyl seafront, taking place at 11am and 2pm on Sunday [June 1].

Among the highlights from the Vale area were the team from Denbigh High School, who took part in the 2pm race, and nine year old Llio Turner, who completed the run in less than 30 minutes.

"The people in Rhyl were really up for the event. Their numbers and enthusiasm helped make this Race for Life a particularly emotional one" Annette added.

Cancer Research UK confirmed that 1,887 runners ran in the first event and 1,268 in the later leg, raising funds for the nationwide cancer charity.
