YSGOL Friars actors and entertainers make their annual pilgrimage to Theatr Gwynedd next month, and hope to put on a show that will rock your socks off!
On three evenings in July, the theatre will be shook to its very foundations to the music of one of Britain’s greatest rock bands, Queen.
From Wednesday, July 11, to Friday, July 13, Ysgol Friars perform the musical We Will Rock You, a collaboration between Queen and writer Ben Elton, which has been running at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End for five years.
Ysgol Friars head of drama, Kay Hilton, said: “Thanks to a project known as Schools Will Rock You, the musical has been made available to schools and drama groups for performance for the first time, with licence, script, score and a CD of backing tracks costing £170 in total.
“The musical is set in the future, when rock music no longer exists.
“Everywhere the kids watch the same movies, wear the same fashions and think the same thoughts. It is up to dreamer and rebel Galileo, and his girlfriend Scaramouche, to rediscover rock music and free the young people from conformity.”
The lead roles of Galileo and Scaramouche will be played by Max Todd and Alethea Lewis, Killer Queen by Kim McHardy, Britney and Meatloaf by Tom Charles and Jade Jones, Khashoggi by Charlie Hughes and Pop by Jimmy Johnson.
Kay added: “Ysgol Friars students are excited to be performing in the North Wales première of the show and to have the opportunity to perform a contemporary musical containing such popular, well-known songs.
“This continues the partnership between Theatr Gwynedd and Ysgol Friars, who have been performing musicals there in the summer annually since 1990.”
Tickets are available from the theatre box office at £7 for adults and £5 for children.
