Mica Paris is coming to Rhyl as part of musical comeback

FOR Mica Paris, the long wait to be back singing on stage is nearly over as she makes the final preparations to her new tour which has left the British soul queen feeling more than a little nervous.

"It’s like walking through Tesco’s doing your weekly shopping – but naked," is how the singer and presenter says she can best describe going back on stage after a 10 year absence.

"Its strange going back out there after all this time, I’m asking myself ‘can I still do this?’ But I love doing the shows. I love being out there and when I open my mouth this voice comes out and does what it does."

Mica’s new album is entitled Born Again and was released on June 1. The album has been produced by the legendary hit-maker, Brian Rawling.

Rawling’s recent single Broken Strings for James Morrison and Nelly Furtado was number one worldwide.

Mica’s roots are in soul and gospel music. She grew up singing in her grandparents church and by her mid-teens was making regular appearances with The Spirit of Watts gospel choir. She was soon noticed as a distinctive voice and at seventeen got her first break as a backing vocalist with the UK chart band Hollywood Beyond.

Her success in music was closely followed by TV fame when in 2002 Mica extended her talents into broadcasting.

Appearing on ITV show Loose Women, hosting her own radio show Soul Solutions on BBC Radio 2 and even touring around the UK as the main character in the theatre production The Vagina Monologues has seen Mica become a household name and gain many fans, some which may be surprised to learn of her success in music.

"People seem to be really excited (about the new show). I’ve got a lot of new fans and some maybe didn’t even know I could sing. Compared to performing on stage, TV’s a bubble," jokes Mica.

Her show comes to Pavilion Theatre Rhyl on September 20 and will mark Mica’s first performance in Wales and one she is certainly looking forward to.

"I’ve never been in Wales doing the show even though my manager’s Welsh! We have an amazing band and the show is high intensity and full of energy and real emotion. I hope to inspire people and for audiences to be moved by the music."

Mica says that will be "no more long breaks" away from music and that she will perform in Wales many times again in the future.

Mica Paris will be at Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl on Sunday, September 30. The show starts at 7.30pm, tickets cost £15.50. To book tickets call the box office on 01745 330000 or visit www.rhylpavilion.co.uk
