THE autumn season of jazz concerts at the Farmers Arms, the Waen, near St Asaph, begins on Wednesday, 15 October.
Audiences will be able to enjoy the smooth sounds of jazz guitar from the superb Trefor Owen Trio, led by Wales’ premier jazz guitarist and special guest Vic Blackwell.
North Wales audiences are used to seeing Trefor Owen perform, but most of the time in an accompanying situation, often supporting world class artistes. This is a far too rare opportunity to hear Trefor as a leader, playing his own unique arrangements which recreate the sound of the George Shearing Quintet, and paying tribute to some of the greatest players in the history of jazz guitar.
Completing the line-up of the Trefor Owen Trio are Trefor’s star ex-pupil Andy Hulme, whose accomplished performance alongside Trefor and American jazz guitar greats Sheryl Bailey and Tony DeCaprio at the August jazz guitar festival proved that he has become one of the UK’s finest jazz guitarists, and a favourite North Wales Jazz Society double-bass player, Dave Turner.
The trio is joined by vibes Supremo Vic Blackwell. Before heading north, he was a regular on the London jazz scene and has long been a favourite player at Merseyside Jazz clubs and with North Wales music lovers.
The music at the Farmers Arms commences at 8.30pm and admission is £6, concessions £5. Further information is available on 01745 812260 and at www.northwalesjazz.org.uk
